REDEMPTION, JUNIOR

Recommended for an adult to play with a child age 5-7.  Very bright 4 year olds may also be able to play.  The child should be able to add single-digit numbers, or at least add on fingers.

To play:

Search through your collection and take out all your non-rare duplicates that do not have special abilities.  Son of God and Angel of the Lord may also be used.

Separate these cards into 3 piles:  good, evil, and lost souls.

Shuffle each pile separately.

Place hero and evil piles face down.

Adult plays the evil cards, child plays the hero cards, and Lost Souls are placed face-up in a pile by the adult.

All players draw 4 cards to begin the game.  Before each of the next rounds, each player will draw 2 cards.  All characters are always placed on the table when drawn.  Enhancements and dominants are kept in hand.

Stats (#/#) on all cards are to be simplified.  Play that only one of the numbers matters.  You may use the first number always, or the higher number, or the second number for evil and first for Heroes.  Decide prior to play which is easier for the kids to understand.

Turn steps:

1.  Child places a hero into battle.

2.  Adult blocks with an Evil Character.

3.  The player who's character is losing plays an enhancement card.  Continue as needed.

4.  Battle ends when the player with initiative can not or will not continue to play enhancements.

Results:

If hero wins, discard Evil Character, one Lost Soul is given to child.  It is now a redeemed soul.  Turn ends.

If evil character wins, discard hero.  Turn ends.

If tie, discard both characters, one Lost Soul is given to child.  It is now a redeemed soul.  Turn ends.

Game ends when child has redeemed 5 Lost Souls.

Christian Martyr, conversion cards, and capture enhancements may be introduced once the basic mechanics are mastered.

To play with more than one child, divide the Hero cards as evenly as possible among the children (perhaps sort by brigade).  The children take turns trying to rescue.  All players draw at the same time, once all children have had a turn.  User of Evil Characters must draw two cards per opponent.  Play until one child reaches 5 or until all 14 Lost Souls are rescued.
