Jesus told a parable about a man who goes on a trip and entrusts his servants with talents of money.  The faithful servant puts the money to use and gains more, and the lazy servant hides the talents and does not put them to use.  When the man returns, the faithful servant is rewarded, but the lazy servant is thrown outside into the darkness.
