God told the prophet Jonah to go to Ninevah to warn them that God would destroy them if they did not change their evil ways.  Jonah did not do as God commanded and boarded a ship to run away.  God sent storms and Jonah knew that they would only stop if he were off the ship.  Jonah would have drowned, but God sent a giant fish to swallow Jonah.  There Jonah experienced the chastisement of the Lord.  After three days he was ready to go where God commanded.
