Once David captured Jerusalem, he decided to make it his capital and brought the Ark of the Covenant there.  As the Ark entered Jerusalem, David celebrated and praised God by dancing.  One of David's wives, Michal (the daughter of Saul), saw him dancing and she despised David in her heart.  The scorn of Michal showed that she did not appreciate the significance of the event.
