David and his men had lived near a group of shepherds for
a while. While they were with them, David's men had protected the
shepherds and their sheep, goats, and belongings. David sent men to
the wealthy owner of all these things, named Nabal. They asked Nabal
for something to eat for his men. Nabal refused. This made
David angry. He planned to kill Nabal, but while he was on his way,
Nabal's wife Abigail, came out with food and counseled David against
bloodshed. |
