During the time of the judges, there was a famine in
Israel. An Israelite and his wife, named Naomi, moved to Moab with
their two sons. The man died, so Naomi was left with her two sons,
who each married Moabite women. Then the sons died, so Naomi was
left with her two daughters-in-law, one of whom was named Ruth.
Naomi decided to move back to Israel, and sent her daughters-in-law back
to their parents' homes. Ruth was devoted to Naomi, and would not
leave her. The devotion of Ruth was shown when she told Naomi
"Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your
people will be my people and your God my God." |
