Joshua and the Israelites were ready to enter the promised land.  It was still occupied, and one of its strongholds was a walled city named Jericho.  Joshua sent two spies to Jericho, and a woman named Rahab hid them.  The spies told her that the lives of her family would be spared when the Israelites attacked Jericho if she tied a scarlet line in her window.
