Moses was very angry and began smashing tablets - the tablets of the law.  Then he burned the calf in fire, ground it to powder, scattered it on the water, and forced the people to drink it.  Moses later went back up the mountain and God inscribed new tables of the law to replace the ones Moses had broken.
