As a result of the famine, Joseph's brothers came to Egypt for food.  Joseph recognized them.  He forgave his brothers for selling him as a slave, and told them to return home and bring their father, Jacob, and their families back to Egypt.  Because of the forgiveness of Joseph, Jacob and his entire family were able to live in Egypt, where there was plenty of food.
